time, narrative and photography - mahmood
Mahmood worked at the center in which we held our workshop. Although he was initially supposed to attend as an intermediary between the workshop facilitators and participants, he quickly became an integral member of the workshop itself. He was a source of support for all of us and was always generous with his time. This is his photographic triptych representing “loss”. Because of family obligations he could not leave his house to photograph his initial idea for the exercise. He had to find something indoors to capture, and was inspired by a group of clothespins he saw hanging on (desperately, it seems through the pictures) to the balcony clothesline.
Through these pictures Mahmood wished to express the need for solidarity, and the high cost to be paid if [Palestinian] unity is lost.
In the final hour of the last day we spent together, we asked the participants to offer their critique and views of the workshop through a photograph. Mahmood took the final picture.
