This workshop served as an experimental creative investigation of the 'The Other' by women living and working as teachers in Saida. The photographic essays were photographed, written and recorded by the women - the same process as with Samar's previous photography workshop with women in Ain el Helweih refugee camp.

The subject matter of 'The Other' - defining what this is and communication with 'The Other' - were all issues that came up during the workshop. Through discussions and exercises each participant questioned and formulated their vision of what 'The Other' is.

Their final works cannot be perceived only by the photograhic essays, but also through the enjoyment, confidence and skills the women gained. Most of the participants were already using this workshop structure with their own students, but this journey encouraged them to innovate their work, question the relationship of text to image, and to venture into a new field of digital photography. "It is so useful to learn techniques to express ourselves in useful ways and to talk of issues we care about," they said during the final screening of their films.
