mapping memories part two: baneen tawfic slabi

My name is Baneen Tawfic Slabi. I am a Lebanese girl from the South of Lebanon. I am 18 years old. I am in the 12th grade in Kolaile High School. I have six sisters and two brothers, five sisters are married so I stay with my sister and the two brothers with my father in our family house in Zibquin. I love friendship. I love to go on trips with my friends. I love dancing and swimming. I love peace. I love happiness. I wish to become a physiotherapist.

Wednesday 12 July 2006

The Israeli enemy fired a rocket on one of the houses here in Zibkin. 16 people living in that house, children, women and men, were martyred. From those were my friends, Khouloud Naim Malak and Mohammad.

After the war ended between Lebanon and Israel, another war started between each individual and himself. Each one of us has lost someone dear to him, and we also had a huge damage in our homes. This affected lots of families who fled to other places, and this affected all of us physiologically, we are tired and depressed.

We wish only for peace of mind.

No more happiness, and I miss you mom. After you went I miss your food so much, I don't know how to make your cookies, I loved how you make your cookies.

‘Mjadara' - do you remember mom how much you used to shout at me to eat Mjadara but I always refused.

Pea, rice, meat, carrot, sauce and salt. My sister told me how to cook this meal.

Courgette filled with rice, meat, mint and garlic. It is very difficult to prepare this meal.

Every month I go to tyre with my father to shop for sausages, and falafel. We put them to freeze, and sometimes when I come from school I can cook them, because it is very easy to prepare.

Dirty dishes

Childhood is a beautiful stage
