Ungrateful Ode to Adel Fakhoury & Brion Gysin

My first encounter with Lebanese Adel Fakhoury's visual poems was through a Beiruti avant-garde publication entitled "Aïe" (1987). I was fascinated by his use of repetition, the subtle and witty sense of humor in his calligrams.

British Brion Gysin is a beatnik painter/poet who elaborated, together with William S. Burroughs, the cut-up technique consisting of shuffling words and phrases, where nonsense and new meanings emerge through random and arbitrary syntax formations.

Repetitions and permutations are the name of the game.
