workshop: challenging media stereotypes exercise 3

Engaging the kids in the process

The teachers were asked on the first day to choose a topic and take their kids out and have them find objects or images that relate to the topic of choice. The idea of this exercise was to get the children to point what they visualized in their environment that stereotypically identifies the topic.

On the second day the teachers separated the kids into groups and were told to come up with questions. Once in a group the kids interviewed one another and for some it was the first time they had engaged in constructive dialogue.

In both exercises the teachers were asked to document the process and to comment on what advantages these techniques contributed to the classroom
