Inaam Fakih |
Born in the Bekaa Valley. Works as a biology teacher and is currently
training in film production. |
Two years ago, in the midst of a deteriorating security situation,
a theatre rose in Hamra Street, Beirut. It embodied the people’s
bias towards life and art and their stance against killing and destruction.
It was all the result of a single artist’s initiative, and
not a funder’s. This meant the victory of a firm dedication
to art through expertise in the selection of quality. |

Patricia Beaini |
Patricia Beainy, born in 1987 in Beirut, is a health promotion fresh
graduate from the university of Balamand. She participated in the
film-making workshop with lens on Lebanon, as an interest in learning
how to use audiovisual arts as a tool of expression. She did her movie
on the free hugs campaign as an illustration of what we, youth, are
capable of doing. |
The free hugs campaign is a movement that started in Australia
and reached Lebanon in 2007 with a group of students going to the
streets and spreading hugs, regardless of all the conflicts in the
country back then. This experimental short-movie is an example about
the simple things we’re able to do for each other in a time
where we need each other.

This short, semi-silent film gathers different snapshots of Gemmayze
street, the heart of Beirut city. Having gone through stormy periods
of war or shining prosperity, Gemmayze street continues to preserve
its heritage. The decades-old building, many as old as the French
mandate period, decorate the faces of the street giving it an authentic
Lebanese taste rare to find in many parts of the cosmopolitan capital.
This, during the day. At night, Gemmayze unleashes the other side
of its character: a vibrant nightlife gathering people from around
the country, region or the world, young and old give the area a different
heart beat until dawn. Snapshots from both characters summarize the
story of Gemmayze briefly. |
